Seasoning God’s Way

Wow! Where has the time gone? I was stunned to realize I had not posted an update since October 2025! The good news is that I do have a reasonable excuse for my absence in this medium.  Yep, you guessed it—I finished the novel!

Ecclesiastes 3:1(NIV) tells us that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. The passage then flows beautifully into a list of things God has given us a time for. Although writing is not directly mentioned, I can weave my craft into every verse. Let’s look at a few verses in an author’s context.

As a writer for God’s glory, when I complete the task God has laid upon my heart, I enter into a time to be born and a time to die. (v2) The written piece is given life, and the time in which I used to create it no longer exists. Written content for the purposes of teaching others about Jesus, enters into a time to plant and a time to uproot, where seeds of faith are planted, and things of this world are removed when one decides to follow Jesus.

Perhaps my favorite moments in this verse are when I enter into a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. (v4)  Creating characters and writing dialogue that make me laugh are celebrated wins, but they can easily turn into moments of mourning when I can’t seem to make everything flow.  Those are times when I need to take the seasons in Ecclesiastes and flavor them with God’s seasonings.

Take, for instance, the moment I sent the chapters to my editor, where I was introducing my very first villain!  Her response was, “Kimberly, you turned the heart of the villain too soon.” Ugh! This was clearly an instance when I needed to spice things up. Discernment in prayer led me to ask God for divine inspiration, a little heavenly seasoning to elevate what I had created.

Several weeks later, I sent more chapters that highlighted the wickedness and selfish nature of my villain. In God’s perfect timing, I was able to present my editor with an ideal climax for redemption. This, of course, led me to a time of celebration! Back in the day, our grandmothers spiced things up with a pinch of this and a dash of that. I like to think that this is how God inspires me when I go to Him in prayer.

Today, I continue to dance as I share the news that I have signed a publishing contract with Trilogy Christian Publishing. I am thrilled to work with them again on this novel. I am blessed to have the same illustrator assigned to my project.  Praise God for small favors and flavors!  Eventually, I will enlist a launch team to help me get the word out, but for now, what I could use most are your prayers.

Please hold me in prayer as I navigate the season of waiting and the anticipation of seeing my new characters come to life. Pray for my project manager, and illustrator, and ask God to enlist the Holy Spirit to season us with creative inspiration as we go through the process.

Lord willing, I will have the book in my hands in time for the Beech Creek Butterfly Release weekend in September.  I promise to keep you updated on the progress; the next step will most likely be a cover and title reveal!

Stay tuned for exciting announcements as I continue with Trilogy in the publishing process. God Bless you and have a wonderful summer!

Blessings,

Kimberly

Kimberly—I am Sooooo proud of you, proud to call you my friend. This is great news. I love that you’ll be getting the same illustrator, too. I think Jeanne and Beth are cheering in heaven. You are the pink runaway bunny–wind you up, throw a carrot and you’re off to the races as the Energizer Bunny. Love to you and congratulations. S. Mary Ann
